Publisher of G.I. Jobs and Military Spouse Recognizes AIU®for Addressing the Needs of Military Students
SCHAUMBURG, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
For the sixth year in a row, American InterContinental University™ (AIU)
has been named one of the country’s Military Friendly®
Schools for its ongoing commitment to providing military students and
their families the opportunities and support they need to achieve their
educational goals. The recognition comes from Victory Media, originator
of the Military Friendly® group of education and career
resources for veterans and their families, and the ratings and resources
are designed to provide servicemembers transparent and accurate
information to help them make decisions about their educational
opportunities.
“AIU feels honored to serve so many military and veteran students, and
we are committed to supporting the unique needs that many military
students and their families have as they pursue their postsecondary
education goals,” said Dr. George Miller, president of AIU. “Being named
to the Military Friendly® Schools list for six years in a row
is a testament to our dedication to providing educational programs and
an environment that welcomes these students and partners with them along
their educational journey.”
The 2015 Military Friendly® list recognizes the top 20
percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that
are doing the most to embrace America’s military servicemembers,
veterans and spouses as students. Developed through more than a decade
of proprietary research, the list is derived mathematically from survey
submissions that include responses to more than 100 questions that
define what it takes to successfully attract and support the military
community. This includes such things as offering programs especially in
demand by military and veteran students and having robust
distance-learning options.
A Reputation for Military and Veteran Support
AIU provides a unique learning environment with opportunities tailored
to the needs of military students, veterans and their families and has
received additional recognition on the Military Times Edge “Best
for Vets” list and from Military Advanced Education magazine.
Over the years, AIU has developed a range of initiatives to improve our
service to those who serve our country and their families, including:
- Financial Assistance for Military Students and Families: AIU
offers reduced tuition rates for all servicemembers and veterans to
provide affordable access to higher education to its military
students. The university also awards grants to military and veteran
spouses that are equal to up to 10 percent of the cost of tuition.
Financial aid advisors who specialize in assisting military students
and veterans are also available to help students understand the
benefits available to them through the AIU
Veterans Grant and Yellow Ribbon Grant.
- Credit for Military and Work Experience: AIU works with
military students and veterans to bring in credits they earned with
eligible experience and training through the ACE (American Council on
Education) credit evaluation system and Prior Learning Assessment
(PLA). AIU also evaluates students’ prior college credit, CLEP and
DANTES exams, and any certifications they may already hold.
- Flexible and Accessible Programs Available to Students Anytime,
Anywhere: AIU online offers 24/7 access to course materials,
discussions, lectures, our online library and other resources. In
addition, our proprietary adaptive learning technology, called intellipath™,
provides students with personalized learning opportunities that let
them skip over what they already know and focus on areas they have yet
to master.
- Participation in Top Military Organizations: AIU demonstrates
military support through integration with a variety of key
organizations that benefit military personnel, including the Council
of Colleges and Military Educators (CCME), the Enlisted Association of
the National Guard (EANGUS) of the United States, the National Guard
Association of the United States (NGAUS) and the Association of Naval
Service Officers (ANSO).
- Career Assistance for Post-Graduation Success: AIU career
coaches provide one-on-one support for job placement assistance,
interview preparation, resume writing, networking and more in order to
help our military and veteran graduates transition into civilian jobs.
“We take special measures to equip faculty and staff to welcome,
accommodate and support the thousands of military personnel and veterans
who choose AIU,” said Dr. Miller. “Understanding the sacrifices our
military and veteran students have made to protect our nation, AIU aims
to do its part to honor this service by helping these students take the
next steps in pursuing postsecondary education.”
